I don't half envy you bus drivers out there half of the time.

On a 39 earlier today and the driver was radioed asking to wait for a passenger to transfer over from a 39A about 4 minutes behind.

So he stopped at the next stop and we waited on the 39a to come. In the meantime a few lads asked could they switch over to the 39a explaining they were going to the city so the driver said fair enough.

So the 39a came along and the driver got off to go to the bus behind, when he was going back to his bus he found that everyone had got off the bus thinking they were transferring to the bus behind (as the lads asking to switch over had got off). The driver explained that wasn't the case. So everyone back on and were off again about 5 minutes later!

Anyway heading down and a bunch of teenage girls come down the stairs keeping their eye on the 39a so they could get off and switch over. The driver copped that this group had included the transferred passenger and this annoyed the driver as he had to hold up the bus delaying everyone so he coulpd wait for her. He gave them a piece of his mind and fair play to him.

So the bunch of giggling teenage girls got off and switched over to the 39a.

    Seriously head wrecking!

Men, it has been well said, think in herds; it will be seen that they go mad in herds, while they only recover their senses slowly, and one by one.

    They probably will but.....

I have my doubts whether they will be using it on the 25th though.

That's fairly inconsiderate to delay a bus load of passengers just to accommodate one person.
So the 39a came along and the driver got off to go to the bus behind, when he was going back to his bus he found that everyone had got off the bus thinking they were transferring to the bus behind (as the lads asking to switch over had got off). Situations like this would be helped if the bus driver made an announcement about what was happening.
I've been on buses that have been delayed before and no update was given.

I'd have to agree - the use of the PA system is chronic by Dublin Bus drivers (excepting Alek Smart who is very much an exception to the rule!).

I was on a northbound 16 yesterday and when we got to O'Connell Street we sat there for almost 10 minutes, at which point, having noticed an 11 coming behind us, I decided to go downstairs and switch buses.

I asked the driver what the wait was for, and he said a driver change (which is fair enough), but I did think to myself, why didn't he tell his passengers this. Anyone with a period pass (such as myself) could then make an informed decision and switch buses.

It is really infuriating and it only takes a minute to let people know what's going on.

I think I was on the 39a behind. Was this at the Centra on the Hartstown Rd.

Theres a switch or something on the back of the bus that can kill the engine, and we were stopped at the traffic lights outside the drumalee estate where these scummers came out and did this to not one but two buses... we had to wait for a maintenance van to come out and start the busses ... imagine that on a day to day basis me patience would be worn

Yep that doesn't surprise me although I have never been on a bus where there's been an issue at drumalee. Its always been further down at the flats at Hanlons corner.

One way aroud this would be if people worked together and someone were to help the driver.

Basically the emergency engine cut off was hit and all it takes is a turn to reset which driver's know about. This is pointless of course if these tolls keep pressing by liftingt rear cover.

City Centre locations are been over run at bus stops and we can't get in so union and management are saying pass the stops so I can see some very upset and aggressive individuals having a go.

Fault is with the drivers here. They could have easily have done it at the center. Stop as normal, driver stays on bus, chances are the 39A would have caught up before the 39 pulls off or maybe a wait of a few minutes, passengers swap buses of they own doing and everyone else is happy.

Lost count of the amount of times I've seen the little bastards doing that in different parts of the city! Of course if one of them was injured I could just imagine the claim being out in & being won!!! 😡
