Doing some underbody work this morning and noticed some rust spots near the rear arches , used wd40 as a quick fix but has anyone any good product like rust oleum or duplicolour?

ACF-50 I've found to be one of the best rust inhibitors. Fairly straightforward to use as well.

Southside motor factors used to sell it but not seen it on the shelf in a while now. They might only do it by order.
Spray it on and dab with a brush.
I've used it on chassis legs, wheel arches and bonnets and have never seen the rust spread or deepen.

Wd40 won't protect from or stop rust. The first shower of rain that comes it's washed away.
Wurth hhs2000 spray oil is far better stuff, it leaves a film of grease on the surface and doesn't evaporate or wash away easily like wd40.

However these kind of oils are more suited to chains and hinges rather than for rust on the underside of a car.

A rust remover gel followed by a zinc rich primer + top coat and then finish of with a clear waxoil type underseal is the only way to keep rust at bay imo.

    Its my favorite paint

Ive even used it to paint alloys
colour range is limited but I like smooth / satan black.

I use the stuf in paint tin not aerosol and will dilute it a little with car thinners for spray gun.
If the surface is free of lose rust quick sanding or wire brush its ready for hammerlite

Doing a full restoration soon. What would the best primer be or sealant to prevent long term rust?

Provided its clean rust free metal you are painting on to I'd use electrox followed by a top coat then seal with dynax UB.
