Its somewhere between "its not the worst" and "its not the best". I haven't lived there myself now so I can't give you too much info, I've just visited a few times!

Decent distance for cycling (they have a bike storage basement) but yeah its a little far on foot. There's a bus that goes from the Tuam road just beside Centrepoint and right up to NUIG, no.405 I think. You can get monthly tickets etc.

A friend of mine stayed there this year and I'd recommend it if you're going there in a crowd but not on your own. The rest of us are based in Dúnáras/ Atlantis and other places out near Westside and Rahoon, and it's an hours walk to her place from where we live. It means taxis home after a night out are very expensive if you're going on your own. (Never EVER walk that far after dark down that area)
On the upside the rent is very cheap compared to other student accomodation, the twin rooms are spacious with enough actual space for two people and you're not terribly far away from town. Lots of exchange and erasmus students tend to end up there, my friend has had two living with her. It's very very quiet so if you've a heavy workload that might suit you. they did run a bus to the college during the winter but I don't think they were making enough money from it to keep it going. (I can testify to the fact that it's a long miserable walk over the Quinncentennial Bridge with a bag full of books and a laptop in the wind and rain :P ) but it's quick enough on a bike and you can always get the 405 :)

I have already made a deposit for a single room? It was the only student accommodation i could find at last minute i got an early and unexpected offer, so i was unprepared. I settled down for this because i might not find any other place.

the single rooms are very nice as far as I know, good bit of space in them. It's definitely not as bad as some of the places people end up in in Dublin, and it's quite well monitored too. I'd advise caution walking home at night as strange things were seen around there last winter, but excercise common sense and you'll be fine regardless :) and I think I remember whatever way they did heating and electricity bills worked well for my friend. On the whole it's a solid place, not mad loud or a social hub but you could be somewhere worse!

Thank you for the heads up! I'm sure i'll meet other new people in the building.

What kind of strange things were seen there last winter? I will DEFINITELY be cautious anyways.

A girl was attacked last year just before Christmas, and several people reported that a figure dressed in a white hooded robe thing was skulking around at mad hours of the morning.. The latter could well have been someone just having a misguided laugh but it really terrified people, the former was no laughing matter whatsoever. The road they're talking about in the thread I've linked would be generally taken by people heading to centrepoint too. It's basic common sense mostly though, Galway is still a city and in a city at night you should have your wits about you anyway :)

It's not something to worry about unnecessarily but it's definitely something worth being aware of. The chances of anything like it happening again are minimal.
My friend cycled back from the Westside area across the bridge between midnight and 2am more times than I can count and she never ran into anyone or anything suspicious thank God.
Galway's a city like any other, if you're walking somewhere off the beaten track after dark of course you should be careful, but the majority of people are perfectly safe besides the few isolated incidents that we all hear about. If that's the only thing holding you back I wouldn't sweat it.

I lived in Centrepoint, it's a lovely place. While that incident did happen, it's a city and things are unfortunately gonna happen. Don't worry about it though, just have a bit of common sense!

My friend lived there last year.
Nice apartments but it's way too far out for my liking. It's in Liosban Industrial estate which is a 25/30 minute walk to NUIG. That's a lot especially if your interested in clubs/societies, traveling to/from Aldi/Dunne's.
If your living there bring up your bike.
