    Hi Guys,

I'm going up to see a used 2002 Toyota corolla tomorrow that has 147,000 miles.
I just want some advice on what to look out for? Its my first car and any tips and watchouts would be much appreciated! :)

    Thanks!

Generally they are a very reliable car but gearbox bearings are a weak point in them. Any signs of having trouble changing gears then I'd tend to look for another one.

As above, also check the oil has been checked and replaced regularly. The vvti engines burn a drop of oil so it needs to kept an eye on. I recently bought a 2000 corolla and they're pretty much bombproof.

I have an avensis and the other half has a corolla like the one you are talking about.
Make sure that the oil doesnt look very dirty.
Make sure the oil is at the right level. Early versions of the VVTi engine burned oil.
The gearbox bearings will make a noise when driving the car. A mechanic will notice this - you might not.
Aside from that do the usual checks and get a mechanic to look at it before purchase.

If you post up an online ad for the car some lads here might have some advice.
