Hi Folkes, I hope you might be able to help me on my quest to give Sky and UPC the heave-ho. I've tried both Sky and UPC and I'm now fed up with heavy cost of both systems.

What I would like to do is install a system that can get the usual RTE, ITV, BBC, along with whatever other channel can be got for free. Would like to be able to get HD channels, record along with pause and rewind.

I hope you might be able to recommend a box or boxes that can do this.

    Many thanks in advance.

If you still have the sky dish you will be able to use that.

So you will just need an aerial:

    cable for the aerial.

A HD Combo box. Now you say that you want to pause and rewind. So I think that means you will probably have to get a Linux box like a Vu, Gigablue etc and install an image that has timeshift capabilities Other people are know more than me so they can help you with that.

What's your thoughts on the following set top box, 4IFE Saorview Approved Terrestrial And Satellite Combi SV-600r?

This box does not seem to have a Hard Drive and I do not think that this box can pause and remind. It seems like you have to attach an external hard drive.

If you want to go down that road why not check out the Ariva 152 or 252.

    perhaps check out Tony at:

also perhaps wait for a second opinion.

But the Ariva boxes are NOT Saorview approved.
