The hobbit filmed using different tech?

Is there anything different, technology wise on the hobbit movies over other 3d movies?

Something that's annoyed me for both is that every few minutes there seems to be a noticeable flicker on the screen (just one not a few seconds of it). I've watched both in screen 1 in Dundrum ( a year apart obviously :-)). The thing is I've seen other 3d movies in that screen before the first hobbit, during last year and again today (guardians of the galaxy) and the issue definitely isn't there.it's really noticeable on the hobbit.

They were shot at a high frame rate, and displayed that way in some cinemas. 48 frames per second as opposed to the usual 24.

If you were watching it in 48, it would look completely different, like all motion is sped up. I guess there's a possibility the occasional flicker could have been an artefact of the conversion down to 24, but I wouldn't imagine that was the case.
