VRT OSMP on 1st ever Lincoln MKZ Hybrid

    Hi,

I am very interested in importing a 2013 Lincoln MKZ hybrid luxury car from the US when it reaches 3 years old (heavy initial depreciation becomes slow at 3 years). I expect to get one for 20,000 US dollars, less than 15k Euro.

It comes with an original window sticker stating Co2 is 233 grammes per MILE.

Converting to kilometers, this is very low emissions - 19% of OMSP. I understand there is supposed to be a 25% discount for LHD.

However, is there any way to get a valuation in advance for OMSP here, will I be exploited unfairly with a Mustang-level yank-tank valuation?

Sticker will show price when new was about 50k USD, or 37k Euro

    Thanks

I don't see how you could get a proper valuation in advanced to be honest. That car will not be on the NCT's VRT database either so they would have to ask Revenue for a figure which means it could be anything really. Remember that for OMSP it doesn't matter how much you paid for it in the US but rather what Revenue think the same car costs over here.

Also as the car is coming from outside the EU you will have to pay an import duty on top of that and possibly VAT.

Yes but by then, the Transatlantic Free Trade customs union thing will probably mean only VRT is left.

But why would you want to import a car that is only sold in North America and has the steering wheel on the wrong side for Ireland?

The automation is at a higher level then available in EU - self steering with cruise control is not disabled if you rely on it, for example. There is also a Porsche Targa style full length glass roof that pops up and slides back behind the rear window - Mercs effort at a panoramic roof is crap in comparison. Its got loads of cool new stuff and i like the look. No bloody timing belt either.

Currently in the process myself, commencing to import anyway.
But my imports would be either commercials or classics so I wouldnt pay VRT. (well, above €200 anyway)

Know anyone who imported something say 3 years old, from the clubs?

    Really want one of these!
An I'd forgotten about the whole clubs/shows social aspect to a yank tank!

I'm not in any of the clubs (yet, keep meaning to join the kilbeggan club) but from what I've seen at the shows the newest car there was an '04 chevy SSR.

There does seem to be a great club/social aspect to owning and driving an american car here. From chatting to fellow enthusiasts at shows to the "beep and wave" when you see a fellow yank tank on the road!

Hey, us idiots that want to drive bigger cars than 1.4 diesels have to band together or we'll get taxed to oblivion!!:pac:

That was in response to CHP saying the newer he'd seen was an 04 SSR in the club.

Its a public forum with public threads. I've no idea why you've gone off here as I was posting back to CHP. You've started multiple threads looking for advice on how to break the law.

I think I did see one 07 mustang at a show alright but most stuff tends to be 70's cars and 70's-90's pickups

Don't know where the aggro is coming from on this thread...

I've seen a few nice newer cars around Dun Laoighre over the summer. They sounds great but you're right, most stuff is older.
