    On Disk?

Just bought Sniper Elite 3 off g2play and realised the last game i bought on Disk was Hawx for €1 in PC World about 2 years ago. before that was Arma 2 in Santry game shop.

Anyone bought anything recent in a case?

Bought Arma X on disc and the 3 copies for steam courtesy of humble bundle and then Arma 3 on disc and then again on steam sale. I bought the disc copies to support what I consider to be an absolutely amazing game that keeps on giving! Even when I leave it for a year!

BF3 I think. Must be about 2 years ago. I was holding out for GTA5 but I havent heard of it coming on pc format yet.

GTA V for PS3 last September. Before that, I think it was Skyrim on PC in 2011 (for the nice map).

I think it was Shogun 2, on the week it was released. Jaysus, that must be over 3 years ago now? And even then it was only because I had vouchers for whatever store I bought it in...

Never since I built my gaming PC lol but years and years ago for a basic PC. Bought games like Empire Earth early 2000's probably! Games on disc for Xbox alright but not PC. Even gone mostly all digital with Xbox One too :)

Last game i bought for console was Resident evil revalations for wii u. It was last week.

On pc, now that's a tough one. Maybe witcher 2 on launch. I honestly can't remember. It was freaking ages ago.

I bought Homeworld 1 and 2 on disc last year, as they're not available anywhere else. Found them in small underground shop, and couldn't believe my luck.

For PC it would have been tera I guess, everything else since has been a digital download.

Planetside 2 x5 a week ago (bonus codes :P ) but buying to play are years ago as I get most via online stores.

Broken Sword 5 Kickstarter in September 2012. Arrived last week on disc, though I don't have a disc drive any more, so...

On PC before that, I don't remember. Does Windows 7 in July 2009 count? :p

As for consoles, the last disc I bought was August 2012. The last disc I received was Christmas 2013 though.

Rome 2 Total war last year, mostly cause gamestop had some additional DLCs that were included on pre-orders .

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,553 ✭✭✭lmimmfn

On PC it was Max Payne 3. I dont even have my DVD drive connected on my PC anymore as it takes up a SATA slot lol.

Ignoring idiots who comment "far right" because they don't even know what it means

Fallout New Vegas back in 2010. I haven't had a DVD drive in my laptop for over five years so buying games on discs and using an external drive was annoying.

Bought mists of panda for $5 ages ago. Never opened it.

Backed mighty no. 9 for a physical copy and box

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,307 ✭✭✭ionapaul

Skyrim for the map. Before that it was Fallout 3! If GTA V comes with a kick-ass manual/map I'll get a physical copy for sure.

For PC: I bought Assassins Creed Black Flag in GameStop just as the last Steam Sale started - it was the "Buccaneer Edition" which includes the Kenway statue and bonus DLC and it was €24.98 which was 1c cheaper than the Steam Sale had the standard edition of the game available for :D

Console: I bought GTA V for my 360 about a month or two after it came out (it was too much fun to wait for the PC release).

Gamestop were doing a sale and picked up Diablo III.

Sword of the Stars II. It was going for next to nothing in Game so I picked it up whilst browsing trying to kill time. It was an absolute mess at release and was going for €5 or less iirc. So 2011 then. Not as far back I as thought!

I think it was South Park: Stick of Truth. Before that it could well have been Skyrim.

Starcraft II Heart of the Swarm

I like disc copies, but I didn't really see the point in getting them when they are DRM laden and worthless after you use the key on the back. As far as I remember, the last one was Wolfenstein (2009). I think I got it a month or two after release when the price had dropped a little. Didn't play it for about 2 years though!

Must have been 08/09. Mass Effect 1, which I thought was crap. Supreme Commander and the expansion, GTA4 and Company of Heroes. The game that surprised me and was most enjoyable was probably the The Chronicles of Riddick, and I loved the first Bioshock. The boxes collect dust now.

Dark Souls 2 even though I already have the ps3 version. Off Topic....Must say since building my own pc my ps4 will be the last console I will probably ever buy.

Same reason as myself for getting the disk version. Was around that the last time I picked up something myself on actual disk.always liked the idea of having the disk but eventually drifted more and more to digital mainly due to cost and availability of some of what I wanted.

On PC it was most likely the original Bioshock or maybe some MMO like Age of Conan, either way it's been years.

Actually, I think it was MMorpg for me too. It might be even guild wars or one of the Blizzards Collectors editions. I am looking at Diablo 3 Collectors edition right there now...

Football Manager 2006 brand new,Guild Wars 1 and Homeworld 2 from a bargain bucket on the same day.

I always remember cause i bought Football Manager brand new that year.

Turns out for me Homeworld 2 was the best of the lot!!!

Sadly these 4 are all thats left of my physical PC gaming library, all the rest either died of old age or were lost in transit with a house move:(

Last biggest purchase: Guild Wars 2 (about 2 weeks ago?)

Last small purchase: Mount & Blade Napoleonic Wars (few days ago)

Can't remember exactly, but I bought a good few at around the same time, including Crysis ME, GTA IV, Mass Effect 1, World In Conflict and Age of Conan.

I was mainly raiding WoW at the time but due to having terrible internet, had to stop and play single player games for a bit.

Wolfenstein New Order. I found it cheaper on disk than as just a download.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 86,729 ✭✭✭✭Overheal

you'd be delighted (or jealous) to know I still have my copy of Homeworld 2 :D in fact im pretty sure it has the same White Label packaging

Resident Evil: Operation Racoon City. Yes, OK, it wasn't great as a Resi game, but I actually loved it! I must have put 100 hours into it between the single player co-op and online multiplayer, which was awesome - two human teams fighting each other in a map full of zombies! If they released that as a stand alone multiplayer it'd do well I reckon. It really was a gem (the multiplayer, not the main game, to clarify).

But yeah that was probably about two years ago. Haven't bought anything since on disk....and I wouldn't, seeing as my last few builds haven't even had DVD drives.

Do miss those days of wandering around GAME though and picking up old/obscure/discount games for 99c and €1.99, even if a lot of them were played for about 5 minutes and dumped.

I don't seem to buy any PC games nowadays. Had a long time away from Steam and just never got back onto it. 3DS and Vita games, maybe a cheap one every month....? I don't pay full price very often though, maybe only one full price game a year. This year's will probably be Smash Bros.

Stopped buying games since my mam and dad got divorced and dad lives in Austria now.

Last game he bought me on disc was probably COD MW3.
Nowadays I just go to a store get my paysafe top up for a tenner and go to g2a :P

Turns out only 8% of PC game sales last year were physical

I bet 8% are just Blizzard Collectors editions! :pac:

Agreed, they are the only games I buy on disc any more (because the boxes are pwetty :P )

I got GW2 for Xmas two years ago and will buy the new WoW expansion on disc as well I imagine. Might just buy it on the cheap some day for the box and get the digital download though. See how I feel come the time!
