Buying an old Zippo lighter?

Recently I bought my first Zippo, and quite honestly, I'm speechless, I never thought I could feel this way about a lighter, it's simply beautiful. Anyway, I'd like to buy an old one, from the 80s or prior. Does anyone know how I can ensure I'm getting a real Zippo from the time period I'm after? I'm not looking for a limited edition one, just a standard Zippo from back then, does anyone know what a ball park figure would be for a standard silver coloured Zippo from the 70s or 80s?

eBay - always the first port of call to check what's available and prices. There's more than 8,000 currently listed here: http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_trksid=p2050601.m570.l1313.TR0.TRC0.H0.Xzippo+lighter&_nkw=zippo+lighter&_sacat=0&_from=R40 :)

I don't think the design has changed to any significant degree since they started making them, why do you want one from the 1980s?

I have always liked Zippos too, but sold off all of my ones when I quit smoking years ago.

Be extremely careful if you plan buying a Vietnam era military version with engraving, as these are heavily faked. As with all items that are faked there are some easy to spot poor quality fakes, but at the other end of the spectrum, some are very difficult to tell from the original.

I don't think the standard versions from the '80's are faked, simply because there are so many of them around and the market for them would not be very lucrative.

    Good luck with the search.

    Regards - Dan
