Yes they have, they have 9 of them on order. Deliveries pushed back from 2015 originally to 2017 now.
Last week they stated that while that order is still in place they are examining the A330neo that was launched by Airbus last month.

    Oh look! Google!

The order for A350's has been around since 2009 and nine A350 Regional's are due for delivery after 2018. At present the company is evaluating the new A330NEO which could mean a possible change to that order, this should be clarified in 2-3 months.

I'd like to propose to the moderator's we open an Aer Lingus dedicated thread, simply because the amount of new threads that have been opened all relating to the company, anyone agree? :)

Yes, they are ordering A350s. Delivery is supposed to be between 2018 and 2020.

Well Jack, the Aer Lingus Fleet Discussion previously fulfilled this gap. The recent glut in EI related threads is no doubt due to the announced departure of the CEO, the J Class revamp launch, the IR issues over the last 6 months and of course the very recent financial/fleet updates. I would expect this to drop back soon enough. Of course if the trend continues then a dedicated airline thread would be a possibility. The problem there is that we would see overflow from Travel with customer service/compliant resolution related posts.

We have seen similar increase in FR related threads when they hit the headlines. The most infamous being post the C4 Dispatches program.

Does anyone know anything about the a340s for aer lingus or is this just a rumour?

Definitely a rumour. Those planes are very costly to run and probably would find it difficult to depart Dublin at a capacity. I am aware that A340 can take-off in Dublin but they must be empty or if full, flying to a destination near by.

It would be a very bad rumour. Think along the lines of fuel burn with the extra 2 donkeys, seat km costs etc. The 340 is a dying beast, even the 600 which is the best of the range is a poor cousin when compared to its rivals. Its all about twin engines or the 380 for ultra long haul these days.

Would need to be bought or leased for buttons to make even slight sense. Rolls do some deals on maintenance costs for the RR powered 340s to try bring the costs in line with twins but the fuel burn is a serious issue. More chance of a Saab 340 at Regional than an A340 at mainline realistically!

Technically it's been around since 2007, they first made the order in June 07 about a year after the XWB was launched by Airbus. Since then of course the order has been adjusted in so many ways that it's hard to keep track!

I wonder how soon will they be addressing the short haul fleet. It's not an issue per say but with newer more fuel efficient aircraft out there it's got to be on the horizon for EI at some point considering also that from any potential order date to delivery the fleet will indeed be ageing all the time.

Would Aer Lingus get more a320s or get the new a320neo or a completely different aircraft altogether?

Over the last 12 months this issue has been mentioned in corporate results publications by EI. It seems they are looking but will not make a commitment until 2015 at least. Their shorthaul fleet is looing OK agewise at the moment.

A320neo would appear to make the most sense for them. And A320ceo production will cease in 2018 anyway.

The average age isn't so bad yet. In fact across the industry I would gander that AL has a relatively young fleet. Sure there are some older aircraft in there but there is a bit of life in them yet and the engineers have always maintained them to a high standard. When the NEOs start rolling off the production line then I would expect there to be a mix across the fleets as newer more efficient models start coming on line.

    Fill your boots with this.
