Both my sisters are heavily pregnant and living in opposites of the country. They have decided that the best way to keep in touch and share baby pics etc for the first few months is to use Skype. Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 8.0 or Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 7.0, great tablets for the price with very good battery life and decent front and back cameras.

Don't limit yourself to Skype. Especially since they charge for group video.
Google's Hangouts is a decent alternative and native to Android.
