So popped into a leisure centre today on a day visit, fancied a swim and some R&R as you would after a weeks work. Was there over 2 hours and the pool was not being monitored at all. I always thought a lifeguard had to be on duty in the pool area not in reception on facebook having the craic occasionally casting an eye onto the portion of the pool area they could see, unless they can see through pillars. There were 3 lifeguards on duty, pool was busy with mix of all ages.

Hotel pools don't need lifeguard watching the pool all the time, not sure if lesuire centres are the same.

I presume you sought out the supervisor/manager and made a complaint? Chances of them reading this thread are pretty slim tbh.

Sir Arthur, did you seize the opportunity to make a deposit in the piscine?

Yes they do. My 4 year old son was thrown out of the Four Seasons for urinating in the swimming pool. I protested that all kids pee in the pool.

"Not while standing at the edge, they don't.." the manager replied.

I raised my concern at the desk when leaving, the head life guard defended saying they were sufficiently monitoring the pool from the reception area and doing their job correctly. As another poster said its not a requirement so that seems to be that.

Ah well then. If some random yahoo off the internet said it, it must be true..
