Booked train online - travel on earlier train?

I booked a train ticket online yesterday to travel today but I want to get an earlier train now. I wasnt sure if I could use the ticket I had so I went to the ticket office with my reservation details and the guy said I didnt need to get a new ticket as I paid full fare so could get any train. But I noticed afterwards the ticket says 'non transferable'.

I'm a bit anxious that I might get fined - does anyone know about it? The irish rail website isnt very helpful.

Call into the station booking office tomorrow and ask them to change or endorse it for you. As you paid full fare there shouldn't be a problem.

non-transferable probably means only you can use it

You'll be fine as you already paid full fare.

Non transferable is on all the tickets but is mostly there to stop people swapping around a season ticket by limiting its use to one person.

You have paid the full booking office fare for the journey despite having booked online so it is no longer a concessionary ticket and must be treated as an ordinary day or open return meaning you can get any return train on the date of travel.
