    Hey Boardies

I'm thinking of signing up to the aviva lessons/ insurance deal

    http://www.aviva.ie/online/driving/driving-school/pricesandbooking/

Has anyone had any experience with it vs non aviva offers ?

Is the insurance offer really that good or is there a catch hidden somewhere ?

I was thinking of starting with a few groupon lessons if possible

I'm having my fourth lesson under this scheme this week. My instructor is really excellent - he has a very methodical and clear approach, which suits my own learning style, and is very patient and encouraging - though I will probably think about taking a lesson or two with another instructor closer to my test time, just to get another perspective on my driving.

One thing I didn't realise until after I got the policy is that my accompanying driver can only be somebody named on the policy. In my case, I'm on my dad's policy, so only he or my mum, who's also named on the policy, can act as my accompanying driver. I find this quite restrictive and I would love to go out with my uncle or brother, both of whom are good teachers, but I'm not covered for that.

    Hope that helps!

Your uncle and brother (sponsor) aren't really there to teach you, more support the teaching from your instructor. Of course we can all learn in different situations but I hope you take my point

    Yep, fair point!

I done this four years ago and like already mentioned the catch is that the accompanying driver has to be whoever is named on the policy. Otherwise good value for money.

Unfortunately my family aren't with aviva anymore - would anyone have any recommendations for another cheap or good offer alternative ?

Axa and TheAA seem pretty good - might be worth grabing a quote from them
