Demise of the Tips thread...

I'm pretty new to this forum and one of the threads I followed constantly was the tips thread. I never posted a tip because I would very rarely have first hand info to pass on. Over the little time I was on it, I began to follow some posters tips more than others.I was always conscious when someone I wasn't aware of from the site posted a tip. Others I'd follow. I didn't need instruction or guidance of any kind that was suggested on some occasions by posters to help show how "good" certain tippers were. I just naturally trusted some.
The most frustrating thing for me reading the thread was the constant bickering by some of the posters. They thought they were doing us all a great favour by pointing out how some tips were "not tips" and how the thread had gone to s--t. Simple thing to do would have been to stay away from the thread so. We really didn't need the advice regarding tips. It was just info. Most can use there own wisdom in figuring out good from bad. It was the constant moaning and nonsense from these people that really destroyed the thread. Not the rules, not the perceived bad tips. But the moaning...

Can you edit the your subject to read "Demise of the Horse Racing Forum".

In someways its a bigger car wreck then After Hours. Both Mods and posters need to sit back and reflect on how the forum has got to this point, neither party is totally blameless yet both act as if they were.

I know what you mean OP and to be honest I was one of the "lads lets stop the fighting and keep this going" kinda guy. Gutted it went to sh.t really. Some good tippers on there.

Interesting post from someone who rarely if ever? contributed to the forum. But thanks anyway. Yawn.

if this descends into a bitching and moanfest it'll be locked and deleted.
The mod instructions on the tips thread were very clear, but it turned into a mess

If somebody has an "inside tip", post it in the daily thread. Job done. People will soon be able to sort out the sh!t from shinola.

To be honest I just find it hilarious that we can't post a tip on a thread on the forum without going through the rigmarole of using a template etc. People know who the people to take notice of are. And now the thread being closed altogether? Very disappointing and very extreme and looks like nothing more than a power trip unfortunately.

    Utter bollox.

Mods closed the old thread over all of the bitching, Tried a new format that would cut it all out. Same **** started again, why would mods bother with the hassle? I swear some days it was like watching a bunch of 5 year olds in there and it's a pity because there were some great great GREAT posters who smashed out some exceptional tips.

Although ive posted a good few winners into the tips thread, I have to say the closure of it in my opinion is a good thing.

Over the last few weeks, all its brought is moaning and new boards members who are literally only here for ''tips'' there only contribution to the forum is a thanks on a winner (if even) aimed at nobody in particular.

But moving the tips and fancies discussion to the daily thread, will hopefully engage conversation as there is no format to tips, this can only stand to improve the forum and restore it to something it was a couple of months back, a place where there was good banter and good insights into racing

Put your info into the correct order like the rest of us, its not difficult and keeps everyone happy

I don't know about the first tips thread but the only bitching in the last one was in the direction of the mods to be fair. The strangled it with their control

But the control was put in place because the original tips thread went tits up in spectacular fashion.

Another thread that is going to be closed shortly. I have an idea. How about discussing racing instead of discussing the board.

No but they made it too time-consuming to post a tip if you got it very late.
I agree with Mick. Plus I was banned for agreeing with him which was very petty.

I'm a fan of the thread and appreciate the insights tips etc.....it's a huge mistake to stop as it's been a success and it's great to have info even if it loses....mods are cool enough but have a job to do......could we all stay cool and keep the emotion out of it.....as I said I'm just a fan and don't have many contacts in the horse industry but love beating my bookie whenever I can...as he loves beating me....thanks to all who have posted it's appreciated

If your tip is that late you shouldn't be concerned with even posting here but rather backing it yourself, otherwise there's no reason not to just post in the fashion the mods want, save the forum coming to an end like it has, like i said though for the better imho

The good information usually comes late though, when the people in the know have their money down.
Its nice to get the info even at a late stage.

No. Keeping to a set template killed the thread. The only off ramblings would have been giving out about the mods deleting posts etc.

Why am I not surprised this has happened?

The reason the thread was closed is because there was constant bickering, moaning and backseat modding, just like in this thread.

Did we set up that template for a power trip? No. In the feedback thread that was set up a couple of months ago, a lot of the issues people had were that posters were posting their fancies or their mates fancies. This template was brought in to bring a bit of order and so that everyone was posting in the same way. When people complained it was too time consuming, I let a bit of leeway which meant it took about 2 minutes tops to post, even on a mobile.

That was the third tips thread and it was the third thread that descended into chaos because it gave the mods so much work to do and nobody was ever happy. Why should we bother leave it open when a lot of people in the thread behave like children? I even told people to PM me with their grievances numerous times in the thread, but they decide to have a bit of a rant on the public end of things so they can build up some support. Petty and childish and it left even more work for us.

When people started getting a couple of winners they then decided that they thought they were above everyone else and wanted exceptions made for them. Not a chance. Why is one person allowed to bend the rules and not others?

The worst of it was when people complained that a post was deleted and it turned out to be a winner, saying people should be allowed to post whatever way they want. When deleted posts turned out to be losers, however, there wasn't a word said about the template or about posts being deleted. People complained when it suited them.

We have a forum to run. One thread was absolute carnage to control and, like I said in the thread, it was one of the hardest to manage on the entire site. Not only that, but it put a lot of people off posting. Before anyone says it was my fault, yes, partly it was, however a lot of people were as sick and tired of the moaning and ranting as the mods were.

This thread is exactly why the last three (yes, three) tips threads were closed. A lot of people use any chance they can to vent at the mods and vent at each other.

This is being closed now because I feel it's going nowhere and fast. If you wish, you can post your tips in the daily threads in whatever format you wish.

I'll repeat myself again, if you have a problem then you PM me (and thank you to those who already have).
