Sisters "friend" used her identity

My Sister received documentation from a bank recently with details of how she had just done a financial review with them, except she hadn't! according to the letter and accompanying booklet she and her "husband" (she's not married), (her "husband" having the same name as her "friends" husband) had met with a bank official about a week earlier. She immediately suspected her "friend" and rang her to ask her did she know anything about it and she initially denied all knowledge.

This person is a bit of a chancer. She has worked as a mystery shopper before. We are presuming she used my Sisters name to do a survey as a mystery shopper although we cant figure out why she would need to use a false name.

My Sister has decided to cease all contact with the woman and she is going to make a complaint to the Gardai. What might be the outcome of this? What might the person be charged with?

If this person was trying to get money from the bank on the pretext of being your sister, then take a look here:

Im guessing myself that she just did it so that she could make money as a Mystery Shopper.

I would ensure the bank makes an investigation. Why are they letting a random make a finanical review on someone else? The bank may have disclosed sensitive information about your sister to her friend.

Yes I think a formal complaint will have to be made to the Bank, EBS

Go in and meet with the manager - the staff would have either met directly with your sisters friend or possess correspondence from her.

Get your facts together and submit complaint to the Financial Ombudsman. Going direct to the banks will be a waste of time

Bad advice. You need to make a formal complaint to your financial institution. If you're not getting a satisfactory reply then you escalate.
