Is Flightradar24 better than Plane Finder?

I have Plane Finder for my iPad. It's a good app in terms of design and features, but I have noticed Flightradar24 seems to have better coverage and features. With Plane Finder you can only view a planes flight history when it is currently in the air, which can be annoying at times.

As an example, here are Stobart Air/Aer Arann aircraft:

    Plane Finder:

    Flightradar24:

Would you regard Flightradar24 as being better than Plane Finder? If you have used both apps it would be the best!

    Thanks very much. :)

    No.

But there's no Plane Finder thread, it's the flightradar24 one, so the message I'm getting is us plane finder folk should feck off.

flightradar24 is better than plane finder, because PF only uses ADS-B, while FR24 also rely on MLAT, meaning that they can capture more types of aircraft. FR24 have been around much longer, they have mastered the aircraft positioning to perfection, PF often interprets things incorrectly especially around takeoffs and landings when signal received from the plane can come and go

You'll find planefinder threads on less reputable websites than boards, if that answers your question. :pac:

Its a bit like Apple vs Android really.
Whichever suits your own hardware/location/accessibility is best for you.

FR24 is definitely the most popular which is how it got its own thread.

I don't get the reference.. obviously these two have nothing to do with your hardware or location...

also whilst Apple vs Android is like comparing Champagne over Wine (both give hangover but only one gives you gas), comparing FR24 to PF should be more like comparing David Bowie and Justin Beiber... sure, they both probably have similar hit count in google, but only one of them is talented

I use both as FR24 (who show a lot more traffic) are very quick to block non MLAT traffic. When this happens you will find the reg in PF.

Now if only PlanePlotter would provide an app with their incredible range of MLAT - that would blow the other 2 out of the water.

I find Plane Finder quick to load when I want to check something when out and about; FR24 seems to huff sometimes and take a while to load, often times too slow and the moment is lost.

PF is also less aggressive at hiding and blocking private traffic; FR24 is the big visible boy and wants to keep itself out of trouble, so it is very quick and easy for an operator to request their aircraft be hidden. One phone call, job done.

On human terms I find the PF staff much more approachable and accomoodating than FR24, and in turn they're more approachable than the PP folk.

On the downside PF does lack MLAT traffic, but there's a lot of traffic that even FR24 MLAT misses.

I can agree with that. The pinkfroot team are very helpful and friendly.
