    Human remains found in Ballyfermot

"A leg was discovered by an employee at the Thorntons Recycling Centre on the Killeen Road in Ballyfermot at around 11.40pm.
The leg was found among the waste material.
Work at the plant was stopped and the equipment was shut down.
A doctor was called and confirmed the limb was human.
A thigh was subsequently found and a search of the plant is continuing.
Deputy State Pathologist Dr Michael Curtis is to examine the human remains.
A large section of the recycling centre has now been sealed off as gardaí carry out a forensic examination.
Gardaí are keeping an open mind on the discovery of the remains.
While it could be sinister, they say there is also a possibility that it could be misplaced medical waste."

If you were dumping body parts, why put it in the recycling bin - some one is going to sort through it all and find it?

I doubt it's misplaced medical waste, all those yellow contamination bags and yellow bins, can't mess that up even if you are colour blind.

What do you think is more likely, medical blunder or criminal blunder?

Why would it be a criminal blunder? I reckon it'd be incredibly hard to trace back specifically where it came from.

Didnt something like this happen at least once or twice in the past year or so?

A number of years ago human DNA was found during routine testing of animal feed in an Irish animal feed plant. What easier way of getting rid of a body than put it through the nearest rendering plant.

As for the recycling centres - I really don't envy the individuals who have to sort through the offerings of the recycling belt....

The original owners hip I'd say.

True, but having no one find a body would be better would it not?

For some awful reason when I was reading that and it said there was a leg and then a thigh, I couldn't help but think about a snack box.

Human remains are supposed to go into the composting bin, not the recycling bin.

I'd definitely pick the recycling bin over the waste bin for a kIp.

Think it's mostly compactors these days but some of the trucks at least used to have a screw to push the waste to the back of the truck, would make a mess of a body I'd imagine.

Whenever I hear of these discoveries, can't help but think of the scene in Goodfellas where the bin lorry is emptying.

Now you are making me think of Tommy in Goodfellas, asking Henry if he wants a leg or a wing...when they are killing/burying/digging up Billy Batts.

oh i'd say theres human remains going into rendering plants the whole time. a truckload of dead and decomposing animals, lobbed straight into a grinder, nobody would even notice

Whenever I hear of Goodfellas I can't help but think of pizza.

Seriously though, spare a thought for the poor chap who made the grim discovery.

Imagine going to work and finding bits of somebody there.
