Stobart Air / Aer Arann Islands

I have a few questions on Stobart Air and Aer Arann Islands.

Do Stobart Air still use the Aer Arann callsign?
I saw pictures from June on flickr of EI-REH in Stobart Air livery. Is it still in this livery? Is this the only aircraft in Stobart Air livery?

Does anyone know what the IATA, ICAO and callsign of Aer Arann Islands is?

    Thanks in advance.

It's important to note that Aer Arann Islands are nothing to do with Stobart or the other Aer Arann.

I could be wrong but I don't think they even have an ICAO or IATA code. they are after all a general aviation operator. As for the callsign I actually don't know but would guess it's Aer Arann Islands to differentiate them from their bigger cousin. Strangely enough I don't ever recall hearing them on frequency.

Aer Arann/Stobart are still using the Aer Arann callsign. No doubt that will change in due course.

I believe they are actually changing callsign/ICAO code this weekend!

I'd say Aer Arann Islands just use the aircraft registration for the callsign.

Thanks everyone. :) By the way, can the Aer Arann Islanders be tracked (I use Planefinder)?

When Aer Arann Islands operated into and out of Galway (Carnmore); it was the registration they used as their callsign e.g: EI-BCE was 'Charlie November' and EI-AYN was 'Yankee November'.

This was over 20 years ago so maybe things have changed.

Sad to hear that 'Arann' has vanished from the airwaves, I was kinda hoping that they would follow FlyBe's lead as they still use the call sign 'Jersey'

    This too shall pass.

From what I read about the company I can't see Stobart being in any way nostalgic towards "Aer Arann"

Listening to some of their Lads on the radios you'd think their callsign was "The Arann"... I cringe every time I hear someone use "the" and the Arann lads seem to love it... :D

2 bad experiences with the Stobart/Menzies combo from Glasgow, I'll be flying AL into Edinburgh in future. Awful service.

It'll be with Stobart in that case also :P. What were your issues with the service?

Waterford Tower, its THE Arann 71 Whiskey...

I see they never changed anyway!

I'm kinda annoyed they way they didn't keep some part of the history of the airline. Was there any need to change something insignificant to the running of the airline?

Yes they needed to change it, the new owners STOBART want it to reflect the new owners not the old one. They paid to buy the airline they own it so it's there's to do what they want with. The same May happen with cityjet when they rebrand. Life goes on I'm afraid.

All Aer Lingus services to Glasgow and Edinburgh are operated by Aer Lingus Regional aka Stobart Air.

Aer Lingus mainline dropped Edinburgh last year.

The only UK destinations served by Aer Lingus mainline from Dublin are Heathrow, Gatwick, Manchester and Birmingham. Some of the flights to Manchester and Birmingham are operated by Aer Lingus Regional.

I doubt that they have the technology required onboard the aircraft for them to be tracked :)

I wonder if they even have mode S never mind ADS-B.

A few pilots on Live Atc getting a bit muddled up this morning!! "Arann 32N correction Stobert 32N calling for taxi"

I suppose it will take them a while to get used to it! :D

I noticed a former Are Arann (REA) arrive on FR24 from MAN as STK this evening.

I lost track in the early 2000s, but weren't both Aer Aranns actually owned by Galway Aviation? Neither actually 'existed' as an airline, they were / are trading names of that company ( e.g. staff were recruited and paid by Galway Aviation ).

Padraig O’Ceidigh bought-out Galway Aviation in the 1990s whilst it was flying two Islanders and then spun-up the 'big' Aer Arann as a division of the company, which then wen on to obtain its own cat-A license separate from the island ops.

Then [stuff happened in the 2000s] and Stobart's recent purchase means that Galway Aviation are no longer associated with the 'big' Aer Arann.

I think you're right. Aer Arann Express as it was is a spin off of the original Aer Arann.

They became entirely separate later. O Ceidigh still has an interest in the island service but he was out of the big airline some time ago.

Now as Stobart arguably it's not even Irish anymore.

Meanwhile the island service is far from secure. With the uncertainty of PSO contracts. Others have plans to eat into their business too.

Interesting times ahead as they say.

    1) Checked in online. Was given the option to turn up at the airport and collect my boarding pass from a machine. Turned up to Glasgow Int, no machine in sight, menzies messed me about, I missed my flight and was flown to DUB the next day.

    2) Can't give details of this, it's being followed up at the moment.

Just thought of another. I was flying with cabin baggage only, and it was within weight and measurements. Check on girl insisted on checking in my bag for a fee. I proved that it fitted in the slot provided and that it was within weight. Then she said I need to stop 'gobbing off', and that she was certain my bag would be taken off me at the gate.

Oh, I sat in the wrong seat on a flight recently, genuine accident - the layout on the seat selection online was different to the actual layout on the plane. I didn't grab an exit seat or a seat with good legroom, just the wrong one. I know it's a CoG issue but I felt like a right prick with how the woman spoke to me :pac:

It's just disappointing service - I pay more so I don't get these hassles!

Seem to mostly be issues with Menzies there. Have found them to be less than perfect in MAN before myself. EI customer care need to know this as they employ them.

Never heard back from EI (not AL, my mistake!) when I emailed in. I used to work for EI and so I knew who to email, tried to follow it up but didn't hear back from the second email. Wish I had now...

Haha your dead right there, you'd always hear it at Waterford. They always used to say "the arann 62 whiskey" and you'd get the load factor over the airways too!
