The half empty Mux2 has to be filled with something for transmission, might as well be testcards. Other than that 2RN haven't indicated the reason.

Can we expect any new channels anytime soon?

Can someone tell me, if utv launch on saorview in january 2015. will we have to rescan our saorview boxes and tvs to get this new channel.
With the test cards already in place, i am guessing that we will not.
I suppose if this new channel is at the end of the channel line up, we wont have to rescan, but if they put it in the middle of the current line up, just curious to know if i will have to re order my channels again after a rescan.

Saorview LCNs 9 & 10 are not used for the testcards (they start at LCN 11) so a retune either automatic or manual will have to be carried out with either UTVI or one of the existing channels moving to LCN 9.

Some Saorview receivers automatically update any channels changes but others, approved or non-approved, may not and a retune will have to be carried out. But don't worry 2RN will give you plenty of notice, a week or 2 maybe based on previous changes.

Also the the 2nd Mux needs to be ready in case:
    TV3 changes to HD
    TG4 changes to HD
Oireachtas TV pays carriage (channel has existed since before Saorview existed, but the TDs won't pay for transmission on Saorview or Freesat. Anti-democratic).

Nothing else apart from UTVI is likely. The Irish Film Channel never had a funding mechanism, so never happened.

2016 may see the end of TV3 and 3e, perhaps 3e might close in 2015 to save TV3 expenditure. It can't be actually making money?
