Hello I'm not sure is this in the right thread. I'm looking for a portable air compressor to drive a 1 inch impact wrench and I was wondering what litre compressor would I need a neighbour was saying a 200 litre compressor would do but I'm not sure. I don't have a budget for a road compressor so that's out of the question. Thanks.

I use a compressor with a 50 litre tank to drive an inch gun. Used only in short bursts but it does the job.

I'd be happier with a bigger tank but if you're on a budget 50 litre tank will do

Its the CFM thats important over the tank size, too low and you wont be getting near to full power

I bought one with a small tank lidi I think.

Its rated at 8.8 but the tank is too small so it struggles to maintain anything like that for more than short bursts before pressure drops and I have to wait for compressor motor to rebuild pressure in tank.

this means impact gun never really gets the full power it needs. Sand blasting is not possible at all because it uses too much air and tank and motor cant keep up.

Paint spraying is fine as it uses much less CFM

If I was buying again I would definitely want a bigger tank.

As impact gun uses a lot of air when shifting stuck nuts and bolts.

By the way even the smaller air compressor are recommended to be lifted by 2 people

for a 1" airgun you need ideally an 150litre tank with a compressor output of 10cfm minimum as already mentioned above its the cfm that's critical not the tank size even a 100l tank would do once the cfm is correct
