    I tried it without the code and it wanted to charge me €50 so tomorrow would be free no €50 joining fee if you sign up using the promo code tomorrow.

    Good find

    But if I use a car it's per hour and per km so too use the car for two hours driving say 70km

    4.99x2 = 9.98
    0.45x70 = 31.50

    41.48 without vat and taxes.

    Seems fairly expensive!

    I used a simular thing when i lived in Canada it includes petroil and your insurance. Still cheaper than a taxi if you need a car for 2 hours. But anything longer might be worth renting a car for the day. Its really only designed for someone going to the shops to take something home its not for big journeys.

    Insurance tax and fuel is paid for tbf. I think it works out cheaper if you drive under 6,000k a year.

    it's also 35c per km after the first 40km

    Yes, it costs me 170 Euro per month all in to keep my car.

    That isn't bad - my petrol would be more than that!

    Yeah and that's why I have a suitable diesel and cheapest insurance I could find, only thing I can't adjust is tax. The loan too but not too bad. I say about 200-220 P/M .

    But been honest, I have my own car outside my door when ever I need it for nearly the same price or cheaper going on the prices.

    Don't get me wrong. It's an excellent idea but it's not one that makes me want to ditch my own car. Be good for someone that dose not drive that often has a full license and needs a car for a few hours to collect something. I liked the idea of the van but there only small vans.

    I don't get how this buisness model will survive, you have to leave the car back at the same base you got it from - completely inconvenient unless the base is outside your house? It says it's like "Dublin Bikes for cars" but it's not as the multiple base element isn't there, so the convenience isn't there, or am I missing something?

    No I think you're right. They obviously do it that way to not need to have drivers out on the road moving cars back to bases as required. Doing so would obviously add costs to the operation as a driver can only move one car at a time. But I get what you mean, not being able to pick the car up say on the Northside and drop it on the southside means that the service is somewhat limited. I wonder does it work the same in other cities or if they have a bigger critical mass of users that doesn't require cars to be dropped back to base.

    There is a Go Car about 100m away from my house.
    I would use this service, if there wasnt a subscription. I would like to pay whenever i use the car, not still pay even when i dont need it.

    Some months I would use it 4 or 5 times, but other months i wouldnt use it at all.

    So im not going to sign up to a subscription. Gocars loss.

    I'm pretty sure the one in Vancouver you just leave it in any assigned spot.

    Would be handy if there were far more cars and you could leave it in any county council parking space. Would need far more cars for that to work.

    In Toronto car2go you could leave at any car2go base. I had zipcar over there and had to return it to the spot I got it from the difference between them and the gocar here is they didnt have a monthly fee it was pay as you go. Was much better than the one here I live in Blanch and theres no cars out here. In Toronto they were always a 5 to 10 min walk from your house which was good no matter where in the city you lived.

    Yeah I guess the service to be a member works out at €60 a year, even if you never hire a car. So if you only rented a car 6 times a year then it would add €10 on to every single rental. If you're stumping up to be a member every month you'd really want to be using it a minimum of once a month to get value from the sub. If youre just going to be a casual user who might use it once in a blue moon then giving them €60 a year so you then have the facility to give them more by actually renting a car isn't exactly great value for money.

    As I outlined on another thread people should also consider buying themselves a one year car hire excess policy (approx €50 a year) and then hire cars around the city as needed. If you live near the airport then better again, often the car hire rates there are ultra competitive, I've gotten a Ford Focus for as little as €17 a day which is about 75c an hour for the 24 hour period and nor does it cost you 45c per kilometre to drive it like GoCar does so if you wanna do an overnight trip to Galway then it's perfectly feasible. GoCar does have it's uses for some people but I feel what's needed now is for a second operator to enter the market and shake it up a bit.

    The situations where you could use it seem very limited. Considering very little use would make a regular hire car a better option.

    Obviously the value is there if you use the service, although for some people companies like this are an insurance policy. If for any reason you need a car, you can get one.

    Car rental makes sense if it is for a longer rental and you have the money on your credit card to cover the excess.
