I am looking at getting a Cordless drill for use around the house ect. I know next to nothing about the technology or how it has evolved over the past 20 years since I bought my B&D corded drill which still works. Anyway I saw this on offer in Woodies, a BOSCH Professional GSR 1440-LI 14.4V Cordless Drill/ Driver for €130, you get 2 Li-Ion batteries and charger with this one. Is this good value or even a good drill or should I pay a little more for a better one.

PS: I am always a bit suspicious of special offers as offers I have purchased in the past turned out to be the typical retail price of the item.

    Thanks.

Its not cheap and its not expensive. You'd probably get a Makita 18v for the same price but much better performance.

I have an 18v cordless Workzone drill from Aldi and it has been doing a lot of work for several years. I know it is going to die as soon as I post this.

Does anyone know what time of year the drills arrive in Aldi or Lidl. I seem to miss them every year.
Is there a warehouse or website where you can track down the special offers that you have missed?

This is mad money to pay for a run of the mill tool. Buy on-line and get a good factory recon for half that price.

Only buy a top brand of Cordless Drill and you'll have years of use from it. Preferably one with two Batteries.
Lithion Batteries are the best. Although in about 2 to 3 years the next generation of Batteries will last for 4 to 5 times longer. Keep your B & D for Drilling Masonry, as in my experience of Cordless drills can't really take the strain
of Masonry Drilling. The Spindles go off centre a little.

I had a similar query recently. I wanted a high quality one that will last me years. Have a read of this: http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?p=90937802

The Makita one I chose in the end is linked to at the bottom of post #9. I did get it a good bit cheaper than what it's going for on Amazon at the moment though.

One thing to note, which is pretty cool, is that there's a huge range of Makita tools using the same batteries and recently I was looking at an angle grinder and there's another Makita one very highly rated on Amazon I might go for and realised I can get the "bare" version without a battery and just use any of the batteries I got with the drill set, so it's going to work out much better price wise as the batteries alone for these things are very expensive themselves.
