    Hello Commuters,

Has anyone asked an employer to sign up for the travel taxsaver scheme and been flat out refused or had a negative reaction?

I'm curious to know if this happens as a friend is interviewing and it'll be a factor

    Thanks

    Sadly,it's a common enough response.

It underlines the essential flaw in the scheme....it should be taken fully under the State's wing, and integrated into the PAYE/PRSI/USC/PT administrative infrastructure.

A worthwhile scheme, but suffers from our traditional failures to dot the i's :)

My employer used to be part of it, but that stopped some years ago. Apparently it was too much hassle for them. Mentioning that they'd save money too was met with 'We have enough money already'.

Yes, and got a resolute 'no'.

Similarly, (that) employer won't engage in the bike-to-work scheme either........

Given that these are effectively State-subsidised schemes, surely there are grounds here for an individual to recoup that saving directly through a personal tax return or something ? Otherwise, they're being denied a 'State' service ?? no ?

You don't want to acknowledge that as truth because, deep down in places you don't talk about at the Green Party, you want me on that road, you need me on that road. We use words like freedom, enjoyment, sport and community. We use these words as the backbone of a life spent instilling those values in our families and loved ones. You use them as a punch line. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the tax revenue and the very freedom to spend it that I provide, and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise I suggest you pick up a bus pass and get the ********* ********* off the road”

Both schemes are not open to individual employees but can only be availed of if your company takes part so no they are not really a state service but a product being offered to companies who can chose to take them or not.
