Excel Concatenate function

Hi,

1st time poster, not sure if I'm in the right forum or not for a start....

If I am, I have a q regarding text to column function in excel.

I have a database conversion table.csv saved into excel.
All the data in the database that I wish to separate is not of the same length, so when I use 'text to columns' it separates the data filling cells, like a left justified text. The piece of data I want to extract is the last entry. However when I separate the data, the entry I want is not aligned in the one column.

For all you Excel wizards/geeks/nerds out there - Is there a way around this (can I convince Excel that it should fill a series of cells right to left) rather than left to right.

note - I have tried right justifying the cell entries first, but this doesn't help.....

I see the file has a .csv extension.

If you open the file in notepad, are the fields separated by commas?

If so, launch Excel, then open the file from within Excel, specifying file type of Text Files.

If you double click a csv file to open it in Excel, it wont parse correctly

I managed to get what I needed from the text using the TRIM function instead.

My initial plan was to 'text to columns', then concatenate it (less the last piece of data).
