Hair dye

I've only ever dyed my hair a handful of times in my life so I don't know a lot about it!

I recently got a voucher to get a colour and cut done in my hairdressers at home in Meath. I'm going to be there this weekend and was thinking of using it. My hair is naturally kind of light brown with a hint of red. About 3 months ago I dyed it myself at home with a permanent auburn colour just to bring the red out a bit (although the colour faded fairly quickly).

I'm thinking of going a bit lighter, like more of a copper blonde. Highlights actually might be the best thing to get the shade I want. But does anyone know if it will be possible to get that done when I only put colour in a few months ago?
