4.4.4 is the current version which is only likely to be on Google play edition phones like the Nexus 4 and 5. Go to Settings>About Phone and the version number should be there. I'd guess 4.1 or 4.2.

Kitkat is just a naming convention that Google/Android use for their current release.

They are all confectionery based

Before and up to kitkat there was:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Android_version_history

    Cupcake (1.5)

    Doughnut (1.6)

    Eclair (2.0–2.1)

    Froyo (2.2–2.2.3)

    Gingerbread (2.3–2.3.7)

    Honeycomb (3.0–3.2.6)

    Ice Cream Sandwich (4.0–4.0.4)

    Jelly Bean (4.1–4.3.1)

    then what we have now:

    KitKat (4.4–4.4.4)

I don't know the current versions which those particular devices are at, you would have to check it out, there usually is an announcement regarding roll-out of a particular OTA [Over The Air] upgrade, and it is rolled out to different markets according to their usual plan.

Of course, there may well be non-standard Custom ROM's available, which could be at Kitkat, which could be flashed on rooted and bootloader unlocked devices.

My Z1 received 4.4.4 last week so the Z2 should have it also. Don't rely on the OTA update. I got mine throug PC Companion. Vodafone told me there weren't going to release the latest version but working on the next release, which is probably lies.
