Picture only on top half of screen

I have gone through a all the buttons and setup options on the remote to see if it was something she inadvertently pressed but no joy.

When she plays stuff she has recorded on her UPC box its the same so I reckon this rules out the problem being at UPC's end.

as anyone encountered this or have an idea what its likely to be ?
