2003 c220 ignition problem

Hi all, we have a 2003 c220 merc, the key has suddenly stopped working in the ignition. There is still power in the car as the lights etc work and the key is fine as it will lock and unlock the car by remote. Am I looking at an EIS issue or key issue?? Thanks in advance
