    Hi
I bought my first car in Ireland last year - escort 1,4 2000. Now i am(or was;) thinking about buying something else - like Opel Vectra/Zafira 1.6 2006.
I am 32, no bonuses, no claims,no penalty points. Full EU licence for more than 10y. One driver added to insurance
So i did quick quote with axa(after that others as well) and now it is about 2k, for escort 2,5k - third part or full small difference. Last year i paid for comprehensive insurance about €800.
Did something changed since last year - or is it now such a luxury to own a car?

What are your current insurers quoting you for the new car?

Axa about 2,5 - online quote.
    Now:
one driver 1,484.78 Third party, fire & theft
    1 additional driver 1,424.98 - female , licence >10years.
    Escort also changed to 1,2k.
How can it be that different daytime gives different quotes?

Try a broker, I use first tire land and found them fairly good when I was in a position similar to yours.

If you are already with AXA, getting one of their online quotes is not the way to find out what they will charge you for this car. Ring them

Might be worth checking what insurance companies are quoting you for your existing car. Then play around with the other variables (named driver, licence type, vehicle type, vehicle value, etc) and see what's causing the insurance to jump.

If you don't have an Irish licence, it might be worth seeing if you'll get a big saving by exchanging your foreign licence for an Irish one.

The price increase is likely to the increase on the size of the engine. The price will shoot up if the car that you are going for is in a high group.

Also as someone else said, the best thing that you can do is call them to find out how much the quote would be for the new car. Go into the call prepared and tell them of the other sites that are cheaper and by the amount.

Just be prepared to be fobbed off. I am not saying this in a bad way, it could be that AXA considers your new car to high risk and that is the reason for the high price
