PL Insurance for a single day

I've been asked to do a wedding next year for friends of the family but I do not currently have an active insurance plan. The reason for this is simply that for the past couple of years I've been employed full-time as an in-house photographer for a large online retailer, so I'm covered by their standard business insurance while I'm in my studio here.

I'd like to accept the wedding but all of the quotes I've seen are to cover a full year. I'm not actively promoting myself as a weddings guy so I haven't done one since 2012 (I was insured back then) and this one in 2015 is the only one I'm planning on doing. There doesn't seem like much point if I have to get full insurance for PL, Indemnity, Gear etc which will drastically reduce the amount I'll take home.

Really, I just want to ensure that the venue isn't going to turn me away for not having liability insurance, I'm not too worried about my gear failing or any other issues arising.

If anyone has any ideas where I might get this cover for a day or just short term that would be great, also if any of you have done a wedding at Ballymacgarvey Village in Meath and could advise if/what type of insurance they asked you for that would also be great! I want to make sure everything is above board but I don't want to be too out of pocket.

Captain Flaps I haven't come across anyone that offers short period PL cover. From experience most of the hotels now are asking for confirmation that all third partties have cover in place, not just the photographers, but the bands, dj's etc.

Even if they don't ask for it the main thing you need to decide if it is worth taking a chance/risk without the cover. Personally I wouldn't, but alot do.

Cheers for the reply Balfey. Yeah, I don't want to take the chance, but more for the couple's sake than my own (I'd be mortified if I was refused entry to a venue and they couldn't get their pics taken). I used to do a fair few weddings and I've never once been asked to produce it, but I wouldn't be comfortable arriving at the venue without it either way. I've already had a few people get back to me to say they only offer it for the year so I guess I'll have to find somewhere that doesn't put me in the red over the event!

Out of interest - would it be necessary to have PL insurance if you were attending as a guest, and happen to take a number of photos?

No you wouldn't require it. If anything was to happen where you mightbe deemed negligent or liable for a potential claim, the personal liabilty section of your household policy would cover you in a personal capacity.

Just in case you think that you might not need it. I'm sure this guy had it covered, I hope!
