3DS Recommendations for kids

    Hi all,

Not much knowledge in this area so be gentle.

Mods, please move if I'm in the wrong area.

I'm looking for recommendations for 3ds games for an 8 year old boy. His birthday is coming and I promised him a game. He loves the Mario/ Donkey Kong/ Lego games but I may have exhausted the choice.

Any ideas for similar? Or different? He's not into the sporting games and I don't want anything violent. He's asked about Pokemon and I've read some reviews but no wiser as to what they're about.

    Thanks in advance.
    Peanut.

My nephew is almost 8 and I got him a Pokemon game to give to him at the weekend (best uncle ever) :)
He's a big Skylanders fan, so this is the next step up from that (without the expense!)

I think with Pokemon, you'll need to be willing to read, and he isn't too bad. Your situation may be different.

I'll let you know how he gets on.

I would recommend the nintendogs and cats 3D game, my 8 yr old loves it. You earn money and score by looking after, naming your dog, bringing it for walks and entering competitions. Theres loads of different breeds of dogs and cats to choose from and they can swap them too if they want. Theres a voice command feature too and you can call the animals and get them to perform tricks using your voice. My childs had it for about 2 years so im sure its not in the hig price range but theres probably a newer version out by now :)

That's brilliant, thanks. He loves reading so no probs there; if anything it will add to the experience for him.

Can I ask you which game is it? Quite a choice.

Thanks. Himself and younger brother both love animals so that's an interesting angle.

Pokemon Black (both Black and White are on sale in Argos for a tenner, plenty of stock around).

If he likes it, I'll move him up to Pokemon X/Y for his birthday.

You're a star! I had noticed the reviews were good but whole world of Pokemon leaves me cold so I wasn't sure; oh to be a child eh?

He has games to trade too so outlay won't be big. Whole new obsession about to open up I reckon.

    Thanks again.

    Mariokart 7?

Thanks. Has all the Mario games (I think!) on the DS. They love it too.

Pokémon sounds like the ideal game for an eight year old.

Just so you know when he mentions getting Pokémon for 3DS it's quite likely he means X/Y. They're the newer ones which also makes them more expensive but I think they're great games. I haven't played black or white so I can't give an opinion on those games.

Thanks but he mentioned it was Pokémon Black. They all seem like good options though.

The following are great selections for younger kids
    Kid Icarus
    Luigis Mansion 2
    Kirbys Triple Trouble
    Donkey Kong Country Returns.
    All good choices.

Gave pokemon black to my nephew yesterday and he just passed the 10 hour (and 3rd gym badge) mark.

Looks like a big success. :)

Thanks again for this. He's battling his way through the early stages of Pokémon and loving it.

Must have a look at Kid Icarus. He has the other ones. Thanks for the suggestions.
