    Hi,
Just wondering has anyone experienced this - due to new CVRT rules my last test was December 2013 and was due another this week so I can renew the tax. Passed last time after 2nd test (failed on one count due to front shock broken was replaced and passed re-test).
This time, only 6 months later it has been failed on:

    1. Cracked rear reflector (this has been cracked for 2 years passed several tests)
    2. Front suspension (wishbone ball joint)

Garage says these have to be done:

    Wishbone balljoint (€150)
    CV boot outer (€80)

Can these parts need to be replaced in just 6 months since last test?

Yes, why not. The wishbone ball joint could have been slightly worn, or 'borderline' when it passed it's last test.

A CV boot is just a rubber cover over the CV joint and could also develop a crack/tear in 6 months. It really all depends on the condition / mileage of the vehicle, and the mileage covered since last test.

As regards the cracked rear reflector, it would seem to be an oversight by the previous testers (or a more 'relaxed' attitude by them). Perhaps the CVRT system is more like the NCT system and less 'local garage tester' like the DoE system was.

Those prices seem really high unless the ball joint and boot are on opposite sides.

What are you driving op ?
