Take the thermoswitch out and put it in boiling water and see if the fan starts.

First thing to do is plug the fan wires out of the Fan switch on the engine. Then Cross the wires and see that your fan is actually working. If the fan turns then there is no problem with the fan itself.

If the fan is working then take out the switch and drop it into boiling water with the fan wires plugged into it. If the fan doesnt turn then there is a problem with the Fan switch . you will need to get a new fan switch.

Trouble is finding the fan switch , there's so many switches and sensors and things under the bonnet , heard about checking it with a paper clip but not sure of how it's done :)

Next time you arrive somewhere and the engine is fully warmed up, park the car, leave the engine running and gently rev it up until the fan cuts in. With no ram effect from air passing through the radiator, the fan will have to cut in at some stage. Keep an eye on the temperature gauge in case it doesn't.

Iv often been stuck in heavy traffic etc and never once heard them coming on , unless there ultra silent I don't know . But my temp gauge has always been normal never goes above or below reccomended level ?

follow coylemj's advice. You might not have to look for any switches

Do you have aircon? Someone may have wired it to only come on with aircon.

I'd say it probably your thermostat though, they're cheap as chips so worth replacing.
And with regards to above, by switch he meant thermostat. The housing should be fairly obvious, a bulge at the end of the engine block, connected two the radiator by a hose at either side.

You'll need to drain your coolant to take it out.

No aircon was removed it's common on dc2s , can they go bad over time ? Must check a price for it now

Was thinking that too, could have been a bodge job on removing the wiring, killing the fan in the process.
If you can survive without the aircon, you're saving a lot of weight. ;)

My mate is somewhat of a Honda mentalist, I'll get his opinion on it tomorrow.

You drive a DC2 dont you? If it helps, I never hear the fan come on in my car either, even in heavy traffic on a hot day or whatever.

Of course, this could also mean that my fan is also busted :pac:

I do :) last week came back from a serious drive n 'twas a roasting day and parked it up and popped the bonnet and topped up washer fluid etc no sign of any fan coming on :/ maybe they only come on when they reach a very high temp ?

Do the same again but give it a bit more time. Make sure you keep an eye on temperature though.

    The guru's suggestion.
Plug out the fan, give the two pins on the fan itself a live and earth and see does it come on.
