    Hey all,

    I have started looking into time lapse photography recently. I have taken a couple of samples to start out with, just to get used to the programs and to see if I could actually do it. The basics are pretty straight forward, but there's a couple of things I am not sure about. I took some pictures in portrait but the presets I am using in Lightroom 5.2 are for landscape. I am unable to find any portrait presets yet. Does anybody have any experience in taking time lapse photos in portrait that could help?

    The pictures I have taken are like this (300 pics in total);

    The finished product is here;

    Lovely - really nice.
    I like how there wasn't much wind so the branches on the trees weren't moving too much. That can be a bit weird looking on timelapses
    Worked out well for you - good job

    While I'm sure its possible, you might hard pushed to find portrait settings for timelapse, as essentially you're outputting a group of photos in LR to a HD video format. The standard aspect ratio for this is 16.9.

    What you could do is perhaps add some panning to video to incorporate parts of the frame that might be missing, it also adds some extra movement.

    Portrait video isn't a good idea IMHO.

    Thanks for the feedback guys.

    Yup, it seems like it :P

    I guess I won't be doing any portrait videos anymore. I lost some quality with the large crop the preset automatically set for me. I also exported at 720p as my computer was under pressure exporting.

    I think I will take another go at this at the weekend and export at 1080p.

    What's the computer specs recommended for this type of work?

    Loads of RAM would help I'd imagine. :D

    I have 8 gigs and an i5. Both are only 1 year old and fairly decent. I would like 16 gigs of 1600 ram and an i7, but not sure if I should go all out and get a new rig or just upgrade a little. Might just start with some ram.

    Are you using a SSD or a HDD? If SSD, is it 3GB/s or 6GB/s, and what does your motherboard support? If HDD, consider a SSD. Pick up a 240GB SSD, as they're going fairly cheap.

    I have an SSD, Samsung 840 I believe. 1 year old also. I will run everest later and find out the exact specs of the ram and SSD.

    I believe the ram is 1600 but my gut is saying 1333. If so that needs to be swapped out.

    Nice job Patrick.

    I like the hand about half way through :P

    If something like that happens, you can remove the single image and it won't be noticed. A fly landed on my lens during a time lapse and it was bloody huge. I just deleted the image.

    I took another time lapse the weekend, I am happy with it, this might become an addiction. I already have lots of ideas of time lapse "projects". Very simple ideas that I want to work on. Hopefully I can get into panning that's not going to cost me an arm and a leg.
