Has anyone worked as a retail stock counter?
I was looking for a part time work, come across this job, applied for it last fri and have an interview this fri. Didn't expected to hear from them so soon.
Anyway, do anyone know anything about this job, the pros and cons etc.

I worked at this job last year but with a different company. I had to give it up, but I applied for one of the OCS positions and have an interview too!

I'm expecting this position to be a bit different than what I did before, because the ad mentions it will include fashion shops and DIY stores, whereas I was strictly working in Spars, Supervalus, Centras etc counting everything that the shop had on the shop floor and in the stock rooms!

The pros for me were that most of the people I worked with were from generally the same area as me and I even knew 1 or 2 of them from years before, the management were easy to get on with (bar 1 cranky old cabbage), the money was good for what you're doing, and you get paid for when you're travelling to and from the stores (which could be in Westmeath or Offaly! I live in Dublin) and the best part for me was finishing so early in the day.

The harder part of it was that it gets really tedious really fast. You could be counting literally hundreds of loose packets of maltesers and m&ms. Depending on your size or fitness, you may find it uncomfortable bending and stretching for most of your shift.
Also some customers will assume you work for the store and expect you to be able to help them. I would help if I could or get someone who actually works in the shop for them, but most of the people I worked with would just tell them "I don't work here, sorry".

The actual mechanics of the job is basically count all of the bottles of coke, for example, and scan the barcode with a handheld scanner and enter the number, that's all there is to it.

The good news is if we (hopefully!) get these positions, we'll be counting much larger items like clothes and tools. The bigger the items the easier your job is! I once had to count over 500 small lollipops!

If you've any more questions let me know here or PM me, good luck with the interview!

    Thanks for your info.

I don't think l can do this job because of the travelling and the long distant otherwise it would be fine. Also l'm a mother and it would not suit me at the moment.
    l have cancelled my interview

    Good luck with your interview
