from what i have read the only saorview approved pvr seems to be the walker box. Am i correct saying that? is this the best box to go for or would people recommend unapproved boxes?

The Walker is the only approved PVR.

The Walker box will give you series link but unreliable recording (lots of discussion on it here in the forum).

The non-approved UK Freeview boxes will give you reliable recording but without series link.

    The choice is yours.

Sorry for digging up old thread.

Has the series link improved on the Walker?

And also I have read that the Walker can loose channels sometimes and needs retune, has this matter been resolved?

    Thanks.

My Walker is relegated to a bedroom TV so no longer used for recording, regarding loss of channels it still happens, also I've noticed if it hasn't been used for a while it becomes unresponsive which requires a full power down and sometime a retune.

Series link works fine most the time but every so often it just fails to schedule the next episodes and you have to set up the series link again. Annoying but as long as you keep an eye on the scheduled timer a week in advance you dont miss anything.

And my box still loses RTE1 every now and then and needs a rescan. Interestingly any shows set to record on that channel still record if thoug

    Thanks for the answers lads.

Have a group c/d aerial ordered for reception from Forth Mountain, hopefully will have a full saorview service soon.

We plan on getting a saorview plus box for the Christmas.

Don't get this box. Failed recordings all the time. Just not worth it.

I have never had a failed recording. I've had the bloody thing stop scheduling recordings that are series linked, that happens often enough but never had it fail on a recording that was scheduled!

Don't get me wrong, this is a crappy box, but at least its manageable and allowed me to cancel Sky+. But as soon as another box comes along that supports series link, dual tuner and 7 day EPG then this puppy is history.

That issue with Series link I get too.

However my box also cannot handle two or more recordings on different channels in one evening. It might record the first one on RTE 1 for example but not one later in the evening on RTE 2.

When I turn on the box next I would have a message along the lines of 'An error occurred with your recording' and no recording present.

Its crap to think that the Walker Plus box is our only option for a fully compatiable saorview plus box.

I already have the Freesat Humax HDR for a number of years and it works very well, on the odd ocassion it has missed a recording or we might do a factory reset, but over all its a great box.

Was just looking to have a similar system in place for Saorview, I dont mind checking it every week to correct serial links, but record failing would annoy me.

I could possibly look at Freeview plus boxes, but how well will they work with saorview also the Walker is now priced at €150

I would imagine channel numbers in the correct position would be a noticable one.

And possibly dealing with any future saorview requirements, also the function of subtitles.

I find the approved boxes are also very user friendly and often will self tune when new channels arrive.

Now I don't want to jinx it but in the past week this box has miraculously started actually being reliable for me and recording series link shows. Have they changed something to resolve the issues?

My Saorview approved Samsung TV still isn't doing series linking since 2RN messed it up a few months back.:-(

I bought the saorview box that could record through a usb stick which I use (mostly ok) but I never had a series link so have to programme it for every day in advance I bought this when we had to change over because my tv did not support MPG 4 Should I now be able to series link

You'd need to be recording on the Saorview+ box for series link rather than a box that allows you to use USB recording.
