Open University Degree - French

    Hi

Has anyone done an OU degree in French and gone on to do the PME (or it's predecessor HdipEd)?

If so, can you advise what you were short on in terms of the Teaching Council requirements and what courses did you do to make up the shortfall?

(eg. I understand that literature is lacking in the OU French Degree which is required for recognition of French as a teaching subject by the Teaching Council - so what course/s did you need to do to fulfill the Teaching Council's requirements for French ?)

    Many thanks in advance.

I'm not a French teacher so couldn't tell you a thing about the module requirements but I'm pretty sure that the Teaching Council have a requirement that you have spent 3 months living/working in a country with French as it's first language (and similar for Spanish, German etc).

Most students in a regular bricks and mortar university would have done this through work placement programme or study abroad.

Thanks for that Rainbow Trout. The living abroad part I can manage as I have done this in France for more than three months. I guess its just to judge what extra courses I might have to do to get my OU French degree recognised by the Teaching Council for teaching (I will get them to assess it but this will take a bit of time so I was hoping to look at courses with a view to planning/budgeting ahead :)). Many thanks

What might be worth doing is looking at degrees on the teaching council list that are recognised for French and comparing them with your own and seeing what the differences are. You will still have to get your degree assessed but it will give you an idea of what you are missing
