We have a website (joomla based) that supposedly got hacked and got taken down. Looking to get cost for getting it back up along with any updates that may be necessary to make it more robust. Is there anyone on here that would be interested or would Elance be a better idea.

    Thanks

Whatever your choice will be: Take the opportunity to thoroughly go through the whole system and keep an eye on security issues.

I have seen many sites where the underlying system was really out of date, e.g. server operating system not updated for 2 1/2 year!!!

PHP should be up to date and its settings (as most websites are on shared hosts) should be set so that the individual customers are partitioned from each other and security of one customer do not affect the others.

Keep Joomla up to date and check for security issues of any plugin that you are using - some widely used plugins have a long history of problems and should be avoided.

Make backups (and check whether they are working).

Do not go for the cheapest guy (pay s_h_i_t, get s_h_i_t).

Good luck in getting your site up and running again.

    Jörn.

Did you lose the database as well can you access it. Usually this happens when files get "injected" with bad code.

As jgorres says a clean install will help. You don't mention if it is a custom design or a theme that was used to create the site as if the joomla version is old (often the reason it was vulnerable) the theme may need some work to look the same as it was before.
