Another driving alone Q

    Hi guys,

Have my test in 2 weeks. Been driving on and off for years (26 now) always been pretty nervous so would give it a go for a while then stop again, etc.
Had made quite good progress about 2 yrs ago in that I was quite confident driving around on my own (big no-no I know) in familiar places. Then I moved to dublin for a year and didn't drive there.

Anyhow, I'm back and really want to pass the test. So I've been practicising since mid June, have had 4 lessons with probably 1 or 2 more before the test. The other person I would practice with is my dad but tbh I really try to avoid this as he can be very jittery in the car which just makes it worse for me. My bf on the other hand is great but he lives in another county so not the handiest.

Anyway, my long winded question/concern is this: my driver instructor says I need to be out driving on my own to gain confidence. He says I should print out my letter for the test and keep it in the car in case I get stopped. I said to him that my parents are concerned that my insurance won't cover me in case of an accident and he said that's only true in one insurance company and basically brushed it off. Turns out our insurance will not cover me driving alone. Now, I'm confident in driving around my locality alone as I know it so well but tbh would be nervous going beyond that alone.

Did any of your instructors ever advise you of this and is driving alone really the way to pass the test??

    Thanks

Well, I really don't think he (or she) should have advised driving alone, so you're right to question that.

Are there any friends / other relatives who hold a full license you can practise with?

    That's totally wrong.

I suppose if you do crash and get sued you can sue the instructor for the advice given.

I'd report them to the RSA's ADI unit on 1890 50 60 80 or 096 25007. See what they have to say.
