Going for it

I got my first provisional at 17, and took professional lessons soon after to prepare for the test, but between one thing and another I ended up cancelling it, and have only sporadically driven since. I was up to par then, but that was several years ago...I reapplied this year and have a test date for two weeks. It's the third date I've gotten on this application so either I attempt it or I lose the 85 quid, I think I'm gonna go for it. I'm starting pre-test lessons in a few days, and I've no idea if I'll be anywhere near up to scratch on time but I kinda have to bite the bullet and at least see where I'm at with it. Even if I fail miserably I'll at least know where I'm at, and the 85 quid is gone either way...

Anyone in a similar position? Or have any advice? I know I should have been driving regularly to prepare for the test, but I live away from home (where I have access to my parent's cars) and a few other factors make this difficult.

Get out as much as possible. Do lessons (not necessarily pre-tests...i was never wild on the benefit of them...), and if you have a friend to accompany you, do so as often as possible. By the sounds of it, you have the skills, but just need to get the practice in to get back on form.

And absolutely just go for it. No point not at this stage! Prepare as best you can and give it your best shot, that's all you can do. Best of luck!

Yeah practise - your mechanical driving (gears, speed etc) might be fine, but if you don't use correct mirrors / blind spot check (which you can get sloppy on / forget) you will most likely fail

Thanks for the encouragement! Yeah I'm having some lessons in general, might do a pre test at the end, I'll see what the instructor thinks will be most beneficial for me.

Yeah you hit the nail on the head there, mechanical stuff is fine but the stuff you have to almost over-do in the test (mirrors etc) need a bit of work. We'll see...
