My partners brother is disqualified from driving for the past year
I was down at his house over the weekend in a rural part of the country and I was surprised to see him pull into the driveway just as I got there.
I asked him was the ban up and he said yes but his insurance is gone thru the roof..
I looked at the disk later on and its from another car
he also is out of tax
    and no nct...

he wrote off a car about 2 years ago ..drove straight through a cross roads
into a field .. while drunk

later on we all went to the pub and surprise surprise he drove home ,.... after 6 pints........
I got a taxi home .. no way was I getting into the car with him

I took his reg and I don't know to report him or not
he is family like .. and I have tried to talk to him about it but he wont listen
I don't know what to do here ... hes a dope... for driving while banned..
really in two minds what to do ... if I report him and my partner finds out they will go mental and so will the family... but I couldn't live with myself if he killed someone or caused 1000s in damage
what to do .. what to do...

Hi Jack Charlton, I think you know the answer here yourself...nothing could be worse than someone being killed or seriously injured, the grief and agony that would cause. Not your family being angry with you etc etc. This man sounds so incredibly selfish and uncaring about anyone else. Its not easy for you, but if anything did happen, it would always be on your mind.
If its any help, I am sure you can do this anonymously, no-one need ever find out. Best of luck with your decision.

If the partner gets caught again, it'll be through his arrogance and selfishness. All you'll be doing is giving him a helping hand. Which you must do. How would you feel if he crashed, and God forbid seriously maimed or even killed someone, and you did not do your duty in reporting him?

Shame on him. And his family too for enabling this selfish behaviour.

    Anonymous letter to Gardai.

Put him under pressure to stop what he is doing.

Any kind of anonymous report will be pretty ineffective. The Gardaí will either need to see him driving or have a witness prepared to testify he was driving at a particular time. That's not to say you shouldn't do it, but don't expect anything to happen immediately. If you can tell them when or where they might catch him driving then that would be helpful.

There is no reason why Gardai cannot investigate an anonymous complaint.

And what would the prosecution consist of in regards to evidence of driving?

I wonder would you be shouting 'why was he allowed on the road?' 'why didn't the police arrest him?' 'why didn't someone report him?' if he should kill your partner/parent/child?

The only solution other than going to the gardai is some friendly warning violence, it is that serious.

If you are that concerned a letter to the local Superintendent will result in the job being given to a Garda to deal with it. You do realise that if he comes back before the court with a driving while disqualified, false insurance disc, no insurance then he is likely to end up in chokey

    EDIT: reply to little Cuchulainn.

The guards would have to catch the guy.

The OP is hardly going to give evidence as he is anxious to avoid family problems.
