Had a chance to buy a Toshiba laptop with W8, an AMD E1 Chip and 2GB RAM.

Tried it out but it was soooo slow.

    45 seconds to open anything.

    Spinning blue circle.

    So I think I'll pass.

Will all machines with W8 be this slow?

No, windows 8 is much faster than 7. The E1 processor is the slowest and cheapest commercially available processor in a laptop.

The processor and 2gb will give you that performance.
4gb is an absolute minimum for Windows 8 imo.
