So this is a really neat idea. Was reading about it in Sight & Sound the other day and was happy to see it'll be playing in the IFI from Friday.

The BFI have scoured their archive and come up with a compilation of films from WW1, put them together, and released them back into cinemas as a special screening. These were the days before the prevalence of feature films, of course, so expect a more eclectic line-up: you have a Charlie Chaplin short, a chapter from an adventure serial, some news from the front, anti-German propaganda etc...

I love these kind of ideas, offering a very different trip to the cinema. Definitely a welcome change of pace for a summer that has been very quiet in terms of new releases. Hopefully it'll be a success and we'll see more of this sort of retro programming!
