Try Peter Bretts books 'Carpentry and joinery ' courses 1+2. He is on the third edition but you can get the first editions for nearly nothing online.( Apologies if you did woodwork in the 1980s - you will have used them ).
Don't waste money on American books - they rarely have enough detail to be of any use.

The Taunton's rage of 'The Complete Illustrated Guide to ....' books are good. Books in the range include Joinery, Furniture and Cabinet Construction, Using Woodworking Tools , Sharpening, Choosing and Installing Hardware, Working with Wood, Shaping Wood, Finishing, Turning, Jigs & Fixtures.

Have a few of them myself.
