Irish legal definition of sub-letting?

    Hi all,

I was looking for a legal definition of subletting in Irish Law.

    I don't think I am subletting:

I rent an apartment and live in it, I occasionally have lodgers stay with me for a few days at a time. I don't give my lodgers a lease or any sort of agreement paper.

My landlord (owner) claims I am subletting, am I?

Technically you're not subletting, but you do have people staying there as licencees - I know from experience though the terms tend to be used interchangeably and the lease you have probably doesn't allow subletting meaning other people paying rent without being part of the original lease.
