    Hey

Had a letter from the council to say our house is being inspected to ensure its up to standard. We rent privately. Anyone had a letter, do they go through the place with a fine tooth comb? Nothing to hide :) but don't like strangers in my home either!

Mildly annoying but perfectly legit. The local authority is responsible for policing the statuary standards for rented accommodation. Safety issues are the foremost issues. Things like is there a fire blanket, sufficient fire alarms, etc. Its the landlord's responsibility to ensure that standards are met and it is the landlord that will will have to address any shortcomings. There may be a followup inspection to check if any issues that were found were corrected.
