Internship Interview

I have an interview for an administrative internship position next week. I was advised on the phone that they had a load of applications and because it was an 'internship position' and not a 'job' they were obliged to hold as many interviews as possible where they would normally cut down the applications prior to interview if it were a normal job.

So basically, after that phone call, I felt very disheartened, as much as 'we are calling you to interview because we feel we have to but realistically you haven't a chance' kind of attitude.

Is there anything I can do to prepare for the interview, do I just prepare for an internship interview the same as I would for a normal job interview or do they take a different approach when interviewing possible 'interns'.

I feel so flat about it all now that I don't even feel like going.

I just kind of feel like if I were to get the position that I will be working for them for nothing for 40 hours a week for 9 months and they have this attitude that I should be oh so grateful that they have to give me an interview.

Or, you could take the attitude that you have an opportunity to prove to them that you're the best of the bunch!

I had an interview where they started off by saying that they normally wouldn't have interviewed me, but that they had reduced the passing mark in their aptitude test.

I was bemused /annoyed and shocked and straight away didn't want to work there.

To this day I don't know why they felt they needed to tell me , I think it was a misguided attempt at smalltalk.

OP if your interested in the position, try and put this out of your mind.

That's horrible. I take it you didn't work there? Still unsure how to prepare for the interview.

No. I did a pretty crap interview after that mind. :)
I'd say prepare for it as for any other interview.

You might find this interesting , the hands on hips stance does make me feel confident !
