I wouldn't say this winter as there's plenty of fodder around etc.
my guess would be if there was a bad spring next year lads could be looking for it, but then again there's a lot if buts and ifs thrown in there

50 euro a ton stacked in the field and collected for that size bale.Payment before loading in real money. At least that what I was told today.

Straw is back in both price and demand this year. The above sized bale was making 10 euro per bale in the field plus baling cost last year.About 7 to 8 euro plus baling this year.Thats for Barley straw.
Moisture testing seems vital for big squares of any type due to bale pressure/packing.
Sorry should have said the above prices were for 8ftx120cmx70cm ie 8ft x 4ftx 2.5 ft.
Making about 20 in the field at the moment(well thats the asking price anyways!)

Early days yet around here, but I'd safely say 4x4 rounds of barley will be under a tenner collected.
Grain at 130ish, straw under a tenner and rent over 250/acre, won't be much tillage gear bought at the ploughing this year.

If the seat's wet, sit on yer hat, a cool head is better than a wet ar5e.

Update lads, straw upto £14-16 now :s., the wonders of rainfall.

Any people reckon there would be a turn in small squares bought at 1.50 each and sold in winter, would they rise in value at all

Demand is still poor. Most farmers seem to be buying just enough but nothing extra.
Straw quality seems to be poorer in anything cut this month ;well maybe not the quality exactly but a lot of it has a dead brown colour instead of a more yellow shine.
A lot of the straw that got rain has been on the ground here for up to 3 weeks and some needed 2 or 3 turnings to get it fit to bale.
Good few chopping all the headlands and baling the rest.

Any rise in small squares or will they stay at the price they were bought at ?
