Hi there can any one help me. For starters I am a total technophobe "TOTAL". A friend of mine just got this dream box thing installed. It seems to have turned his TV into a smart TV apps all over the place. now it looks to be very good it does not seem to be very good quality, picture quality I mean, he has a very modern TV so I don't thing it's that, but it looks poor. It is great if you search for a film and find it play that's it. But seems very long winded for normal TV watching. He says you can get all normal channels and all program's, maybe I'm wrong but there is no TV menu like normal sky or whatever but long winded searching then playing. Jesus the misses would go mad going from eastenders to corrie to fair city and missing the start because she can't just flick from one channel to another.
This looks a great thing for the house, is this a good system and I just don't under stand how it works properly or is there better ones out there I should go for.
I have seen a few threads of this sort of thing I think but I got lost in all the tech.
    He paid E120 for his.
Sorry for long question, any help would be great.
Remember if you do give me any advice the technophobe thing.
    Many Thanks

A 'Dream Box' is a catch all term for a number of different set top boxes, some of which can be used to illegally obtain pay tv for free or for a small fee. For this reason I'm pretty sure you cannot discuss them on boards.ie, also this isn't really the right forum for this.

On the other hand you might be referring to an android tv box, which would mean you are in the right forum and you can discuss it, but not how to receive tv using it. They don't normally cost €120 though, so I have to assume you are talking about the former.

its referring to the actual android box, which can be spoken about here. There are various names for similar boxes, but once it has xmbc on it then its grand. a quick search on google brings up loads, you can get them preloaded from Amazon, china and adverts.
It can be take a bit of getting used to. while they do have certain channels and movies and shows bear in mind that it is streaming, so unless you have a good download limit * unlimited and you have either eircom, upc or sky you should be ok to watch some shows. Also the streaming of certain channels and sports events can not be spoken of here, as it is illegal to talk about that. Im sure a pm to people can help point you in the right direction though
A few places actually allow you to test it out for a week, make sure you do however get an airmouse, a standard remote is only going to piss you and the o-h off. Expect to pay between 40-150 euro.
